Awl Aster is a native plant found throughout Virginia. It is an example of how what looks like a simple flower can in fact be very complex. A flower is a reproductive structure of a flowering plant. The Awl Aster is a composite flower, which means that the flower is actually composed of many flowers grouped together in one flowerhead. In some plant species, hundreds and sometimes thousands of flowers are grouped together to form one flower-like structure.
