Devil's Beggarticks is a native plant in the aster family found through most of the United States. It is in the genus Bidens, which means two teeth. Most of the species in this genus have barbs and bristles; they are drought-tolerant, and certain species of moths and butterflies are attracted to them. The seeds have two stiff, barbed bristles that easily attach to passing fur, clothing, or shoelaces; thus the "tick" reference in the name.
