Drooping Sedge
Carex prasina
native
Drooping Sedge is a native perennial grass that grows in most of Virginia. Perennial means that it lives more than two years, compared to annual plants that complete their life cycle within one year and then die. Perennial is also applied to plants to distinguish them from trees and shrubs with little or no woody growth, even though trees and shrubs also live more than two years.
