Honewort

Cryptotaenia canadensis

native

Other Names:
Canada Honewort, Japanese Parsley

Honewort is a native plant found in much of Virginia. It is in the carrot family and serves as one of the host plants for the Black Swallowtail butterfly. The origin of the name is not clear, but it might come from a medical condition called "hone" which caused the cheeks to swell and become inflamed. "Wort" means "plant", and honewort was used to treat this condition.
