Jumpseed is a native plant found throughout Virginia. It gets its name from its ability to eject seeds more than 10 feet if disturbed. Jumpseed is in the buckwheat family, along with the vegetable rhubarb, but it is not related to wheat and grasses. Its native range includes Japan, Korea, and China, even though it is not known to have been introduced either there or in North America.
