Early Meadow Rue is a native perennial plant found in some parts of Virginia. It is in the buttercup family, and it grows in shady woodlands. The flowers, which are wind-pollinated, bloom in early to mid-spring, growing to be between one and three feet tall. The scientific species name dioicum is Greek for "two households" and reflects that it is dioecious, which means that the male and female flowers are on separate plants.
