Spring Beauty
Claytonia virginica
native
Other Name:
Virginia Spring Beauty, Narrow-leaved Spring Beauty
Spring Beauty is a native plant found in much of Virginia. It was named for the beauty of its flowers during the spring. The plant was used widely as a food source and for medicinal purposes by Native Americans. While Spring Beauty has no way to protect itself from humans, it can protect itself from ants, who usually cannot climb up the very narrow stems to get at the nectar.
