Blackhaw
Viburnum prunifolium
native
Other Names:
Blackhaw Viburnum, Sweethaw, Stagbush
Blackhaw is a native shrub found throughout Virginia. Its fruit provides food for birds, and because it appears in the fall, it is especially important for fall migrants. Blackhaw has been used to treat medical conditions, even though it is not recognized as being safe and effective by the Food and Drug Administration. It is used widely as an ornamental plant by gardeners, and the fruit is used to make jams and preserves.
